Lettre d’un libre penseur tunisien au sénateur américain Joe Wilson

Honorable sénateur ,

Permettez-moi, en tant que citoyen tunisien et libre penseur, de m’adresser à vous avec le plus grand respect dû à votre titre et à la fonction que vous occupez.

Je tiens tout d’abord à rappeler la relation fraternelle et sincère qui unit nos deux peuples, tunisien et américain. Cette relation a toujours été marquée par un profond respect mutuel, une solidarité dans les moments difficiles et une admiration commune pour la liberté et la dignité humaine.

Au nom du peuple tunisien, dont la démocratie naissante a été confisquée par un imposteur et son entourage, je tiens à vous remercier pour votre position claire, franche et juste. Vous avez exprimé avec courage ce que beaucoup d’entre nous ressentent profondément : la Tunisie mérite mieux que la dérive autoritaire qu’elle subit aujourd’hui.

Vos paroles ne nous sont pas étrangères. Elles sont celles d’un ami sincère qui n’hésite pas à dire la vérité lorsqu’il s’agit de défendre les valeurs universelles de justice et de liberté. En cela, Sénateur, vous vous inscrivez dans la noble tradition américaine qui a toujours inspiré les peuples en quête de dignité et de démocratie.

Nous vous sommes profondément reconnaissants du soutien que vous apportez au peuple tunisien, afin qu’il puisse, malgré les obstacles, reconstruire une Tunisie meilleure, aux côtés d’une Amérique plus grande, et dans un monde meilleur.

Allow me, as a Tunisian citizen and a free thinker, to address you with the utmost respect due to your title and the office you hold.

I wish first to recall the Fraternal and sincere relationship that unites our two peoples, Tunisian and American. This relationship has always been marked by deep mutual respect, solidarity in times of hardship, and a shared admiration for liberty and human dignity.

On behalf of the Tunisian people, whose nascent democracy has been confiscated by an impostor and his entourage, I wish to thank you for your clear, frank, and just position. You have expressed with courage what many among us deeply feel: Tunisia deserves better than the authoritarian drift it is enduring today.

Your words are not foreign to us. They are those of a sincere friend who does not shy away from speaking the truth when it comes to defending the universal values of justice and freedom. In this, Senator, you stand in the noble American tradition that has always inspired peoples striving for dignity and democracy.

We are profoundly grateful for the support you extend to the Tunisian people, so that, despite the obstacles, they may rebuild a better Tunisia, alongside a greater America, and within a better world once again.
